when you're feeling stuck

reading time: 5 minutes

No matter if you’re a writer, photographer or content creator: As a creative mind occasional ruts comes with the job description. The good news is, creativity is a skill that, just like anything, can be practiced and improved. According to the World Economic Forum, creativity is in the top three skills workers will need to thrive nowadays. So if you’re is feeling stuck or struggling to find fresh ideas, here are some tips to unlock your inner creativity!

Take a break

Often, our creativity is stunted by endless to-do lists, the pressure of day-to-day life or mindless distractions – like social media! To take a break from work can help immense! Neuroscience researchers has found that our brains are more creative during leisure time, while you let your mind daydream a bit. And in fact, it’s that simple! Have you ever had a great idea while showering, or maybe on your daily run? Yes!

So, one of the best things you can do when you need to spark creativity is to take a break and do something you love. Go out for a walk, hike that mountain or travel for a while. Give your brain permission to turn off. It will help to get the creative energy flowing and to boost productivity.

Boost your Self-Confidence

Sometimes, it’s easy to doubt our abilities. Unfortunately, negative self-talk and lack of confidence make it even harder to spark creativity. Try to make a quick list of all your recent accomplishments, think about what talents and skills you used to reach those goals and what you’re grateful for. Even small actions can make a difference!

Make a mind map or a mood board

A mind map, as well as a mood board, is a great visual thinking tool and an easy way to brainstorm thoughts and dreams without worrying about order, structure and possibility. Think out of the box! Put all related ideas coming off the subject together .

Find a comfortable setting

As a freelancer or business owner you have the possibility tp work where and when you want. Sometimes this can be a curse and a blessing at the same time. If you’re getting a writers block, you can change your setting – from home office into a coffee shop, or to a co-working space. Find a comfortable setting – even if it’s just an unusual corner in your house or your garden – where you feel inspired to think.

Never stop learning

The best way to keep the creativity flowing is to never stop practicing and learning! Seek out new personal or professional development opportunities, learn new skills, take yourself time to think creatively each day and try new hobbies to spark creativity.
